Nickel was abandoned at the shelter at 9 years of age and he looks and acts fabulous for his age. He is such a good boy! This gentleman is listed as a Pit Bull / Pointer mix and he absolutely loves to play fetch. He doesn't act like he knows "sit", but he most definitely knows the command for "drop it". Before you tell yourself that 9 is a little bit older than you were looking for, spend a little time with Nickel -- he is the perfect combination of polite and fun and it seems that no one has told him he is a "senior". Nickel came in as a stray, so we don't know a lot about his history, but so far he seems dog friendly. Unfortunately, Nickel was adopted once and returned because the other dog in the household was being protective of the house and did not welcome Nickel. The adopter was heartbroken, and this is what she had to say about Nickel: "Nickel is the most calm, sweet, loving, tolerant and agreeable dog-impossible not to love immediately. You will feel as if he's always been your dog. He will make the perfect apartment or house companion dog. Nickel is housebroken, has no bad habits like barking or scratching doors or jumping up on people. Nickel wants to be your best friend, content to lie at your feet, or on the sofa next to you, and sleep with you on your bed, just to be near you and give you love. Nickel doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and is all dog and all people friendly. Don't know about cats, but from the way he's so tolerant of everything else, I personally wouldn't hesitate to try him, if the cat is O.K. with dogs. "Nickel obviously came from a home where he was loved and well-treated, and given people food. If you're cooking food or eating, he's ready nearby for a tidbit; not hovering, crowding or demanding, but in a loveable patient way, watching with his adorable big soft liquid dark eyes until you cave in, and toss him something which he catches with perfect precision. Nickel can catch a treat thrown to him from quite a distance, so it's hard to resist it's so entertaining. "Also a ball! He adores playing catch. He stands a few feet away and you toss him one and he'll rear up and catch it, bring it back and drop it when asked. Because he isn't rowdy, this can be done in the house while sitting in your favorite chair or on the sofa. Also, because he is 9 he is not into rigorous exercise and a short simple game of catch seems to satisfy his exercise needs. "Nickel knows the commands come, sit, stay, down, wait and no, but appears not to be leash trained. He's starting to get the hang of it though. We took him to the park and found out the hard way that he needs a fenced yard or a leash to go out to potty or he'll just start to trot on off to explore all of Idaho. Nickel needs and deserves to live indoors in comfort and be loved. He appears a little stiff in the joints being an older guy, and prefers to lie down instead of sitting. But he has really good teeth and good breath, clear eyes, and a soft silky coat. Do yourself a favor and choose Nickel as your loving companion dog."
