Boxer - Wilbur Aka Tank - Large - Adult - Male - Dog
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: Wilbur aka Tank at 3 years old, looks like a boxer/ black lab mix with maybe a smidgeon of Great Dane. Although he is a large dog, he is all legs and weighs around 50 lbs. Wilbur's build is very slight and he has a s
mooth glossy black coat with short fur that will require little grooming. He came into foster care far too thin but is now a healthy weight.
Wilbur is reliably house trained and also has very good doggie manners in the house. He is a higher energy dog that can keep up with playmates whether they be kids or other dogs. He only touches his toys or bones, stays off of the furniture but knows he is allowed to cuddle with us in the evening on the bed. He sleeps in his crate at night as well as when we are gone and does so without complaint. Wilbur loves to be hugged and petted and will give a big smile. He is not a sloppy kisser but will give a quick lick as if to say "thank you" and has learned to sit for affection and treats. Wilbur is fine with all of the geese and ducks in our neighborhood but he will need to be in a cat free house. This happy-go-lucky boy knows his name and not only comes when called - he comes running. He sits on command and will sometimes shake and lie down on command. We are practicing. He does not stray far from his person when off the leash and loves to go hiking. Wilbur is a great swimmer and will jump right in the pond or river. He loves to play fetch - ask me to forward you a video of him playing.
Wilbur is initially shy and timid. He warms up quickly with women being his favorite but strangers that come into his home causes distress. After adjusting to any children in the household, he is a wonderful companion, but keep in mind he will be fearful of others coming into the house to the point of growling.
