He?s RIGHT HERE!!!
Shorty is an absolute sweetheart who is waiting for his forever family to find him. This Basset Hound/Aussie is about 2 years old and is just hankering for a family of his very own.
The unique looking hunk is a bit shy at first with new people but warms up when given a bit of time; he does much better if you let him come to you. Once he knows you he will be your best friend! He truly thinks that his short legged, 40 lb body is built to sit in your lap and would give anything to at least sit next you wherever you are; he really likes to sit on the couch with you.
Shorty knows the commands sit, stay, come, down, go to bed (kennel) and he is house trained. Our short statured friend is dog door trained, sort of kennel trained. He will sleep all night in the kennel without a peep with or without the door being closed. But does not like being put in the kennel during the day; but he will deal with it.
As with most any hound, Shorty is not good off leash, he will follow his hound nose no matter where it takes him. He gets along great with other dogs, he loves to play (not big on fetch though). We have not had the opportunity to introduce him to cats so we don?t know how he?d do.
Shorty walks well on leash but could use more training on this; he is not a digger or chewer and he rides great in the car. He knows to stay off furniture and bed but will cuddle with you if invited up. He is a medium to low energy dog; a walk a day and some loves and he is good to go.
Because he is shy Shorty would do best in a home with someone who will take the time to work on his socialization and continue to teach him that he has no need to be afraid of strangers. He is good with kids and would be fine in a household with kids.
Shorty does need to go to a home with at least one other dog ? he does not do well if he is alone all day, but does well with a friend.
Shorty is neutered, microchipped and current on his vaccinations.
