Kira is a 105 pound, 8ish year old Akbash, purebred we believe who is sadly in search of a new home. Now before you go getting all excited and think ooo cuddly teddy bear please know that this breed is not for everyone and we encourage you to read up on them before applying.
Like most Akbash?s Kira is not the most affectionate dog until she's comfortable with the people; a guardian of her people and her property. She's good with kids (over 8 please) but leery of strangers. Kira loves to be cuddled, hugged and just be around her ?flock? of people and she is a wonderful companion.
As with most Akbash?s she can get aggressive towards other animals (dogs, cats, squirrels, birds) in her "domain" that don't belong there, though she's never attacked another animal. Now that isn?t to say that she is bad with other dogs; she has been boarded at Camp Bow Wow in the past and did great; Kira just isn?t going to put up with a strange animal that enters her space without the property clearance.
Kira knows how to sit, lay down, and cover her eyes; she's house trained, but has suffered incontinence problems which have been remedied with Diethylstilbestrol (1mg) every 3-4 days. Monitor her water in the evening and you won?t have any problems. She requires brushing, as she sheds a medium amount. Kira will also need to be walked every day; she needs a good long walk.
A fenced house with a large yard and a family who will walk her daily would be best. Kira is an inside dog as well; she will need to be a part of the family; socialized and not be used as a guard dog. Because of the breeds? strong independent nature, it thinks twice upon receiving commands. You must have a well fenced yard and be willing/able to spend time on socialization. Kira needs a firm, but calm, confident, consistent owner.
Kira is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
